Sailing Dinghy Project July 2021
The dinghy raffle closed on June 28th and was drawn on Monday 5th July with the dinghy fully rigged in front of the Veterans Support Group Men’s Shed at 11am. Andy Bryson thanked “Noah”, our resident boat builder, and his team, and all the shed members that contributed to this large exercise over the last six months.
Peter Handy supervised the draw in his capacity as a Justice of the Peace, Senior Constable Mark Richards and Constable Dane Stretton drew the numbered balls out of a bag and Andy Bryson wrote them down. The winning number was 0618, and when the ticket record spreadsheet was consulted, the winning ticket was announced as one of 300 sold to Maritimo Boat Builders, with one of their staff, name to be advised, receiving the winning ticket.
The dinghy was picked up by Maritimo on Wednesday 7th July. At some future date, Maritimo would like us to officially present the dinghy to the winner here at the Men’s Shed. Watch this space.

Transitioning to civilian life can be challenging for some veterans. Finding suitable work, adjusting to life after service, and coping with past experiences can be difficult and confronting.
When people leave Defence, there are many organisations that are committed to supporting them to successfully move on to the next stage in their lives. There are 24-hour help lines, chat forums and online information available through Defence, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling, major mental health organisations, and veteran-specific support organisations. Our organisation works to support mateship, and celebrate their courage, endurance and sacrifice
