Both branches of the Vietnam Veterans Federation at Nerang were blessed once again to
host the group of Legacy Ladies from Brisbane Southeast Group, based at Coorparoo RSL.
for their Christmas Lunch, held in the kitchen of the Men’s Shed. Sadly, the number of
attendees are in decline, as age and health issues catch up with them, but that did not
detract from another great experience for both the ladies and the hosts.
The chartered bus, ably driven by Bill, arrived just before 12noon, and tea and coffee were
soon served to the happily chatting group, before getting down to the serious business of
the lunch itself. Our long-serving and faithful caterer, Clancy, put on a delicious meal,
complete with ham, turkey, and all the trimmings, followed by delightful sweets, all
accompanied by much banter and laughter.
Peter Cameron then Drew the ubiquitous raffle, all above board of course! and everyone
received a prize along with good humor. After what seemed like no time at all, it was time
to board the bus and head back to Coorparoo and their various homes, having had a
marvelous gathering and good food. We look forward to hosting the Legacy Ladies again
next year, should that prove possible.

A recent Shed project was commissioned by a community customer to paint two natural finish wooden bar stools to two black bar stools in order to fit in with the customer’s décor.
Despite our reluctance to cover up the beautiful timber grain , we nevertheless, after quoting an agreeable price, accepted the customer’s wishes and proceeded to paint them black.
After close inspection of the stools, it was apparent, being of IKEA origin, that they could be easily dismantled, making it much easier to initially sand back and then spray paint. Greg Wells was given the task of dismantling and sanding, and Andy Bryson was given the task of painting. We initially thought that a litre of semi-gloss black paint would do the job, but it subsequently took nearly two litres, thus adding to the cost considerably.
Two coats of paint later, the last being with a “hardener” added to give a longer lasting finish, and allowing sufficient time to dry, the stools were reassembled by Greg, and the customer was delighted with the end result, although a little surprised at the cost of paint these days.

Thanks go to Kevin Roberts, Peter Cameron, Barry Litherland, Peter Handy, Don Lees, Michael Ragg, Jamie Greenlees, Wally Wright, Graham Huggins and Mick Caldwell for participating in the parking at the Country Paradise Parklands for the Southport & District Orchid Society Show, on Saturday 8th October from 0815 to1330. Thanks also go to Margaret Cameron for managing a table and selling jams, honey, turmeric and cookies. A profit of $269.30 resulted from this endeavor. Thanks to Aimee and Hailey Caldwell for also getting involved by cooking and bagging delightful cookies for sale at the table. A big thanks to everyone!
Kevin and Andy were invited to attend the Orchid Society’s monthly meeting on 2nd November, where a cheque for $350.00 for performing the car parking task was accepted by Andy Bryson on behalf of the Men’s Shed.

The Orchid Society meeting included a competition for orchids in various categories, with prizes being awarded for best orchids. There was also a lucky door prize, and surprise surprise, it was won by Kevin Roberts.
